Stepping Out in Chicago
Developed for all Chicago public school students, this booklet gave Chicago parents great places to visit with their children, what to see at each, and questions to ask on the way home to start discussions about what was learned.
Metropolitan Teaching and Learning Company–Voyages
Working directly with the School District of Hillsborough County, in Florida, we created Voyages, a K–5 mathematics program that included this hands-on kit for Kindergarten children.
Our Chicago/Nuestro Chicago
“Our Chicago” or “Nuestro Chicago” was part of a series of bilingual books developed for the Chicago Public Schools. It features Chicago’s many special places—including the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Chicago Art Institute, Wrigley Field, Lake Michigan, and the beautiful downtown area with its Sears Tower. It also features Chicago’s special people and events!
Voyages K–5
As publishers ourselves—under Metropolitan Teaching and Learning Company—we had the opportunity to work directly with math educators in the School District of Hillsborough County, in Florida. Together, we created a 9,500-page, comprehensive K–5 mathematics program that supported all of the Sunshine State Standards. This partnership provided the opportunity to classroom test all of the lessons before finalizing the program.
Detroit Social Studies
Under Metro, we “won” the Social Studies adoption at the K¬2 levels—with no books submitted. The reason? The Detroit adoption committee did not believe that the submitted textbooks reflected the people and places of Detroit. We created the complete program in several months, delivering it on schedule. The program was a great success.
Metro Math Bridges
This summer school intervention program, developed directly for the Chicago Public Schools, addressed the specific mathematics topics that the ITBS assessments had identified as difficult for Chicago students.
Digital Reading
As we look forward to the future, CCI is developing exciting digital alternatives to print components, including interactive digital formats, apps, and tablet-delivered instruction.
